The Girls’ swim team dominated the pool on Friday at the Belva J. Boone All County Meet held at Spire Institute. It was a battle of speed and determination as over 83 swimmers from Lakeside, Jefferson, Edgewood, Pymatuning Valley, and Conneaut at this meet. The Girls’ hold this two years in a row. “It was a whole team effort, across the board,” said Dragons coach Maureen Surbella. The Dragon Girls captured first place in 2 of 8 individual events and 2 of 3 relays. Senior Athena Pantoja left an indelible mark on the meet by dominating both the 200 free with a time of 2:06.10 and 100 fly with a new school record of 1:04.91. The 200 Medley team of Callie Boardwine, Ali Kiphart, Athena Pantoja, and Morgan Anderson set a NEW school record with a time of 2:13.92. and 200 free relay team of Morgan Anderson, Anya Shevchik, Hannah Wilfong, and Athena Pantoja swam home with a victory. The final combined scores of Lakeside 528,Geneva 498, PV 338, Jefferson 263, Edgewood 257, and Conneaut 143.
The Lakeside Boys’ earned a proud 2nd place finish losing only to Geneva. Final combined score of Geveva 435, followed by Lakeside with 304, then Jefferson 270, Conneaut with 188 and PV with 56.
Both teams are having solid seasons. Lakeside Girls’ are 7 and 0 on the season and the Boys’are 5-2. The Dragons will be back in the water on Saturday, January 23 for the CVC Conference Champs.
