Dragons News · Bob Walters Enters Ohio Tennis Coaches Hall of Fame

Recently Lakeside Head Tennis Coach Bob Walters was inducted into the Ohio Tennis Coaches Association.  Coach Walters is in the midst of his 56th year coaching tennis in Ashtabula. He started as the Ashtabula Boys Tennis coach in 1964, he became the Girls Tennis coach at Lakeside in 2005, he helped to start the program initially in 2003 following the consolidation.

Lakeside Athletic Director Jason Baxter said, “Coach Walters after 56 years continues to impact student-athletes everyday and gives them the best experience possible. He has created a family atmosphere within the tennis program. I personally value Coach Walter’s soft spoken but impactful demeanor and his experience.”

In the banquet program Coach Walters profoundly said the cornerstone of the program rest upon good sportsmanship and common courtesies. Each player responds with a please, thank you, or an encouraging remark for a teammate…Saying hopefully they can become better players and individuals as they graduate and go through our program. And they will carry this philosophy with them in whatever they choose to do.

Walters became the second Tennis coach in Ashtabula County history to be inducted joining mentor and friend Arnie Bradshaw. He is also a member of the ESPN 970 Hall of Fame and Ashtabula Area City Schools Alumni Association Hall of Fame.
