Boys Varsity Wrestling, Varsity Wrestling · Lagoa and Wannett Columbus Bound!

Senior Jacob Lagoa and junior Ethan Wannett became the 8th and 9th Dragons in Lakeside history to make a trip to Columbus to compete in the state tournament. Lagoa did it in dominant fashion with two pins and two tech falls including a 16-1 second period tech fall over Ethan Silvis of Medina. Lagoa improved to 34-1 on the season, he now has over 130 wins in his career. Lagoa was a two-time state champion while attending St. John School. Wannett, who went over 100 career wins during his junior campaign last week, he won his first three matches to clinch a spot in the finals, two by decision and one by pin. He would eventually fall to Kolin Howard of Maple Heights, who is 34-0 on the season. This is the fourth time in school history that two Dragons have qualified for the state tournament in the same year.

As a team the Dragons finished 11th out of 38 scoring teams. Brecksville and Wadsworth shared the team title with 233 points each.

State competition will start on Friday evening at 5:40pm from the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.
