The sport of wrestling can truly be a sports of inches and seconds! The latter was the case for Dragon senior and Edinboro commit Jacob Lagoa this weekend at the Chagrin Valley Conference Championship held Friday and Saturday at Cuyahoga Heights High School. Lagoa dominated the competition at 160, winning all four matches by pin including three matches in under one minute. He won his semifinal and final match in less then 60 second combined and only spent 2:42 on the mat for the weekend. Lagoa is a two-time state champion and was on pace last year as a junior before his season was cut short due to injury. Lagoa came into the weekend the third-ranked wrestler at 170 in the state according to BoroFan rankings.
Ethan Wannett continued his stellar junior campaign with a runner-up finish at 126 losing only to Perry senior and Stanford commit Kyle Rowan. he had won his first three matches all by first period pin fall. Wannett is now 28-8 on the season, he is a two-time district qualifier.
Sophomore Kaleb Scaine also found the podium with a sixth place finish at 195.
The Dragons finished the tournament in ninth place as a team. They will be back in action next Saturday at Maple Heights for the OHSAA State Dual Tournament, they will take on Maple Heights in the first round with action starting at 9am.
